After five studio albums and a squillion singles, Black Lips stun the world with more of the same.  

They still sound like an old surf rock LP with all the accompanying hiss and compression as if multi-track recording had never been invented – exactly the kind of wilful retrospection that I’ve never quite got, especially as they aren’t themselves ‘re-creating’ an era in any sense.

I get that they’re a good live band but I’d like to see them stretch themselves, if only a little.  As this is not as good as their past efforts it leaves little to get excited about.
