This must be a renaissance year. We have already seen new releases from U2 and the Prodigy. And now, the creme-de-la-creme - a new release from the Pet Shop Boys. The Pet Shop Boys have made an art-form out of producing catchy pop songs. New release "Love Etc." may not be quite up there with the likes of "West End Girls" and "It's A Sin", however it packs enough pop to provide worthy distraction from a year of bland releases. Featuring words that are obviously meant to inspire a younger generation to go looking for love - "you need more than a big blank check to be a lover, or a gulfstream jet to fly you door to door, somewhere chic on another shore, you need more you need more you need more you need" - the Pet Shop Boys have also managed to drench the song with non-materialistic ideals. Now nearly into their third decade, with "Love Etc.", the Pet Shop Boys have released a single which will sustain their longevity. At the same time, it allows them to impart a few words of wisdom onto a world driven by greed... 8/10
